Who We Serve
Brothers' Helpers ministers directly to the poorest of the poor in Los Angeles. These poor are the homeless trying to survive day-to-day on the streets on one of the richest cities in the nation.
Los Angeles leads the nation with over 80,000 homeless men, women and children.
- The average homeless adult is 45 years old.
- At least 10,000 homeless youth sleep on the streets of LA.
- 41% are high school graduates; 10% have earned college degrees.
- 12% are veterans (Vets are twice as likely to become homeless)
- 25% are physically disabled, 42% if you include mental disability.
- 18% of homeless adults are employed.
- 76% had been employed some or all of the 2 years prior to becoming homeless.
- 20%-35% live in shelters.
- Families make up 20%-43% of the homeless count nightly.
- Homeless families are typically headed by a single mother.
- 86% of homeless adults are United States citizens.
